Bloody Mary Chili Recipe
Have you ever tried making food using the bloody mary mix you have in your cabinet? Well it gives things a kick and adds lots of flavor
Chili is such a funny meal. I say that because there are thousands and thousands of ways you can make it. No one is wrong really.
Some like it with lots of juices and others like it super chunky and thick like we have here. I like it both ways really, just depends on my mood but as is this one came out great.
We started years and years ago having chili a few times each month using my 5 ingredient crockpot chili recipe. Typically I cook either a pot of rice or make baked potatoes to serve it on and top it with cheese. The more the better for us.
To me chili is a hearty dinner that everyone here loves. It is warm when it is cold outside, and quite inexpensive to make which I love when I have 5 to feed.
If you're ready for some bold flavors and kicking it up a notch, make this bloody mary chili spicy. Or tame using as much hot sauce as you like! 😉 You can make this with ground beef or a venison chili recipe if you prefer that type of lean meat.
I got the idea when I was watching the Food Network. The next show that was coming on was The Pioneer Woman. She was going to make her bloody mary chili. This is non alcoholic don't worry.
I didn't have time to watch it but just jotted the idea down, looked at her recipe online later on. I figured I could use my traditional recipe and just tweak it to include bloody mary mix. It came out great.
If you want to make this in your crockpot you could do that easily too. Just brown the meat beforehand, throw everything (except the cheese) in your slow cooker. Put it on low to simmer all day long.
Bloody Mary Chili
- Ground beef or ground sausage works too
- Onion
- Bell pepper
- Celery
- Bloody mary mix in a bottle
- Pinto beans
- 15-ounce can Kidney beans
- Diced tomatoes
- Spices such as chili powder cumin and many others
- Dashes of Worcestershire sauce
I make easy Instant Pot chili too which is much quicker, and now we have a much chunkier bold version with our easy bloody mary chili recipe. You really can't go wrong with any of them served with Crockpot cornbread.
Here is a quick step by step but there is a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. If you have the other brand of machine, you could use these ingredients to make Ninja foodi chili in that too.
Time needed:1 hour.
Bloody Mary Chili
- Prepare
Dice all of your vegetables. In a pot heat oil and your add the ground beef (or spicy ground sausage is amazing too). Cook until about half way done, little pink is remaining.
- Cook
Add the garlic and add onions,. Throw in your diced bell peppers, celery, and all the spices.
Stir, and allow to cook a bit more until ground beef is no longer pink and veggies have begun to soften.
Over medium heat add in your can of diced tomatoes, add your kidney beans drained and rinsed (or style of choice) into your pot. Pour in bloody mary mix, Tobasco, and Worcestershire sauce.
Stir, allow to start to bubble. If you want more liquid add a bit more bloody mary sauce to taste. Lower heat to low and put a lid on your pot just slightly ajar.
Simmer for 1 hour stirring occasionally on low.
Top with cheese and serve with side of cornbread, over baked potatoes, or with diced green onions on top.
What is the best secret ingredient for chili?
I think a bit of heat is a must. Not so much that you can't taste your food and your nose is running, but just a slight kick. Beans are a must for us as well but some are a hard NO for those.
Want to add something different? Add a cup of frozen corn in too! I love this personally, adds some texture and flavor.
Crazy right? Making chili with bloody mary mix and beans is out of this world I tell you!
